Baby and Toddler Safety (0-3)
Supervision
- NEVER smoke or drink hot beverages while holding your baby or toddler.
- NEVER leave your baby alone and out of arms reach on an elevated surface (like a changing table, bed, or sofa), near or in water (not even in a bath seat), or with a pet or young sibling – not even for a second.
- Only leave your baby or toddler with a mature adult and make sure the places they stay are safe.
- Keep your baby in a highchair or playpen while you are in the kitchen.
- Keep a hand on your baby when changing clothes or their diaper.
Dangerous Items
Choking Hazards
- Anything that can fit through a toilet paper tube
- Bigger toys with small parts
- Toys with strings
- Clothes with buttons
- Jewelry – including teething necklaces and earrings
Strangulation Hazards
- Anything that can wrap around your baby
- Jewelry – including teething necklaces
- Hanging cords or strings
Other Items to Avoid
- Baby walkers - can cause injuries by rolling into hot objects or pools, falling down stairs, and access to dangerous objects such as coffee cups or knives
- Neck floats - can lead to drowning and suffocation or injury to the baby’s neck
