Children's Medicaid and CHIP

Children's Medicaid provides health coverage for children from low-income families. CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Program) offers health coverage for children whose families exceed the income limits for Medicaid but still cannot afford private insurance.

Requirements
  • Must be 18 or younger (some children with disabilities can get Medicaid at age 19 and 20).
  • Must be a Texas resident and U.S. citizen (or qualified non-citizen).

You have 30 days after your child is born to apply for insurance.
