Internet & Media Safety

One of the best ways to set and enforce rules is by using a Family Media Plan. This makes sure everyone is on the same page about digital media safety. Below, are our recommendations for Family Media Plans:
  • Common Sense Media Family Media Agreement (Printable)
  • Healthy Children's Family Media Plan (Online, Customizable)

Phone & Computer Safety Tips

  • Turn off cell phones at bedtime and keep them stored in a central basket outside of bedrooms.
  • Keep the computer in a common area where you can observe your child’s use.

Internet & Social Media Safety Tips

  • Check your child’s internet history regularly to be sure your child’s internet choices are appropriate.
  • Use a safety filter or parental controls to limit your child’s access.
  • Monitor your child's social media and email use.
  • Teach your children to NEVER share personal information online including their name, address, phone number, passwords, or plans.
  • Check ratings and parental guides on movies, TV shows, games, apps, and videos to determine whether the content is appropriate for your children.
